?    The state of Illinois faces expenses to the tune of $3.5 billion due to deaths occurring due to alcohol, drugs and tobacco addiction or casualties such as DUI.
?    40% of the total people who die due to accident casualties in Illinois are related to alcohol use alone. In that way, alcohol abuse in Illinois kills 4,000 people each year on the roads.
?    From the total mortality rate of Illinois, there is an estimated 5% who die due to alcohol abuse or other kinds of substance abuse, either directly or indirectly.
?    About 82,000 admissions occur each year in various centers for alcohol and drug rehab in Illinois. Out of these, a significant number of people checking in are for pure alcoholism treatment. This number stands at 18%. The three most popular types of drug addiction in Illinois are marijuana at 26% of the total rehab admissions, cocaine at 21% and heroin at 16%.
?    Despite various negative repercussions of alcohol abuse, people in Illinois are still reluctant to give up the habit. It is found that a lot of people in the state have a very high tolerance to alcohol, which later on manifests as tolerance to other substances.
?    People who get hooked on to alcohol will want to try other forms of addiction. The prevalence is for marijuana. However, since marijuana is also a relatively mild drug, there is a propensity for these people to start trying out drugs like cocaine and heroin.
