New Approaches in the Treatment Program for Drug Addiction in New Mexico

June 15, 2008

Like other states of America, New Mexico has prepared an addiction treatment program that will treat people for their mental conditions in addition to their dependency problems. It is observed that people who have mental issues find addiction treatment very difficult. Since a major part of the addiction treatment program in New Mexico depends on the person’s own capacity in preparing a resolution to stay away from the substance, people with mental illnesses find it very tough to succeed with these treatment methods. That is the reason a simultaneous approach is being used in many centers of addiction treatment in New Mexico which treat people from a physical as well as a mental point of view.

This is very well seen in the dual diagnosis method of drug treatment in New Mexico. The dual diagnosis method is used for treating people who have a psychiatric problem that makes their addiction worse. In New Mexico, the dual diagnosis method caters to such mental problems as bipolar disorder, panic disorder, stress disorder, anxiety and depression, hallucinations, schizophrenia, etc. People who have such problems will definitely find it very difficult to mentally equip themselves to stay away from the addiction.

The detox program is the first program in such substance abuse treatment in New Mexico. But the detox program needs to be very sensitively handled because the person’s mental condition will make it worse. Some centers for drug rehab in New Mexico are equipped with specialists that can deal with these binary issues. Later, a psychiatrist will take over, analyze the extent of the person’s mental condition and then chalk out a viable treatment program keeping that in mind.
